Adam Ronis and Jorge Martin break down the Week 11 Injury Report, analyzing how key injuries impact fantasy football.
It’s a mixed bag in Week 11 on the injury front, when we got some signs of hope at the outset of the week as the Bengals opened up the 21-day practice window for Joe Burrow. The NFL is just better with Burrow taking snaps and firing passes to Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. It really would be a Thanksgiving treat to see Burrow locking horns with Lamar Jackson in Week 13 as we’re deciding between more stuffing or dessert as the accompaniment to the big game.
But there are many miles before that game happens. Sadly, there will be some injuries that happen before then. For this week, we’ve already been dealt some OUT designations for
Marvin Harrison Jr. (appendicitis), Jayden Daniels (elbow) and Terry McLaurin (quad). Though Scary Terry did get to make the trip to Madrid. Other players sitting are noted below.
We did get some more good news, as word came out from San Francisco that Brock Purdy and Ricky Pearsall are both returning to the field. That will be huge for the 49ers, as they have an NFC West matchup against the Cardinals, who are dealing with the loss of MHJ. The 49ers being the healthier team, that's something we haven't seen in a while.
As far as other players we’re waiting to learn about, read on. (NOTE: This article will be updated as more information about players' statuses become available.
C.J. Stroud has already been ruled out for the week due to a concussion. It’s the second straight game Stroud will miss with the concussion. The Texans play on Thursday in Week 12 against the Bills. Davis Mills will start and with a matchup against the Titans, there’s no need to downgrade the offense.
Dart has already missed the first two days of practice, and while that may be an automatic downer that it’s been confirmed that he will not start, there is a ray of sunshine. Jameis Winston was elevated to QB2 and has been designated to start in Dart’s place. It’s going to be a tough assignment for Winston, as the Packers are eighth in the league allowing just 15.4 fantasy points to QBs. UPDATE: Dart is going to sit the first game with Mike Kafka as interim HC. With Winston taking the reins, it would be more fun if he had anywhere near to a close complement of pass catchers. Sadly, below another one is missing. Still, Winston will find a away, even against the stout Packers D.
It looked like a tough start to the week for Flacco, as he kicked off the first practice after the bye week with a DNP. Then he followed it up with a limited session, so he’s looking good to get the start in Week 11. The Steelers have allowed 300-yard passers in four of the past six games, so look for a shootout in a game with a 49-point over/under. UPDATE: Flacco was deemed fit to play, which can only mean good things for Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. Even Chase Brown out of the backfield. We can't expect a monster 470-4 game again, but Flacco has certainly been slinging it to his top-end pass catchers and is our QB11 on the week.
Rico Dowdle was limited in practice on Thursday with a quad injury. The same thing happened last week and Dowdle played. Expect Dowdle to play against the Falcons and start him. UPDATE: Dowdle has been cleared to play and is full steam ahead against an Atlanta D that was trampled by Jonathan Taylor for 244 rushing yards and 3 TDs in Germany last week.
J.K. Dobbins has a foot injury and there’s been talk he could be placed on injured reserve. Dobbins hasn’t practiced and is almost certain to be out this week against the Chiefs. Sean Payton said RJ Harvey “will have more opportunities” and he becomes a good play, but Tyler Badie and Jaleel McLaughlin could be involved, too. UPDATE: Dobbins has been ruled OUT and this could be a multi-week injury. No word on IR for him, but for this week it appears to be Harvey first in line for touches. The Chiefs are allowing the seventh-fewest fantasy points to RBs, so it could be a tough NFC West game for Harvey.
Irving has been out since Week 4 with multiple injuries. The shoulder injury has kept him out the last few weeks. Irving has put in limited practices to start the week, providing some hope he could return. If he misses another game, expect Sean Tucker to be more involved with Rachaad White used more in the passing game. UPDATE: Irving will sit at least one more week, so it could be a split backfield between Tucker and White. If you start either, you may have to be TD-dependent with the pair going against a Bills defense that's No. 3 in most rushing yards allowed to RBs.
Pacheco didn’t practice on Thursday with a knee injury that sidelined him in Week 9 and the Chiefs were on bye last week. It’s unlikely Pacheco plays against the Broncos. Kareem Hunt will get the majority of the touches in the backfield. UPDATE: Pacheco is sitting OUT this week, so it's very much looking like Hunt will lead the backfield. While we want to leave the candle on for Brashard Smith, until we see a snap percentage significantly higher than the 18% in Week 9, it's really only going to be Hunt who's the worthwhile play. As great as the Denver D is, the Chiefs will likely ride on Patrick Mahomes' arm than anyone else.
Watching Adams grab his side then coming out of the game put a damper on the big win over the 49ers in Week 10. The receiving TD leader missed practice to start the week, then hit a limited practice on Thursday, so it’s looking like any concerns that Adams could sit for the huge game against the Seahawks are for naught. The Seahawks are seventh in the league in fewest receiving yards allowed to WRs, so this will be a good battle within the game. UPDATE: Adams looks like he will play on Sunday, unless there's any setback pregame. He was limited in practice, but that could've been just as much because of the wet weather in LA on Friday. This will be a great showdown, because as great as Adams has been, the Seahawks have been very good against WRs. In the past three games the Seahawks have held down WR1s Nico Collins (27 receiving yards), Deebo Samuel (41) and Marvin Harrison Jr. (33). Get your popcorn ready.
Godwin has put in limited practices to start the week after missing time with a fibula injury. Godwin has played two games this season following two offseason surgeries. The Buccaneers might be cautious and wait another week. UPDATE: Godwin is sitting, and there was some chatter that he could sit through early December. If the weather doesn't limit the Bucs' passing game, Emeka Egbuka could be up for a big game. Since Stefon Diggs touched them up for 146 yards in Week 5, the top WR for the opposition has put up at least 80 receiving yards against the Bills.
Golden missed last week with a shoulder and has been limited in the first two practices of the week. Coach Matt LaFleur said Golden was very close to playing last week. Golden hasn’t done anything to consider him in lineups, though the matchup with the Giants is tasty. UPDATE: Golden was cleared to play, which is good news for him. Fantasy managers rostering him might have other options to play, as he's really only a boom-or-bust player going against an NYG defense that's allowing the fifth most points to opposing WRs. If you're forced to start him because of injuries and the bye week, the hope is that he'll break off a long TD reception.
London didn’t practice on Wednesday due to an illness and was limited on Thursday. London is expected to play and is a WR1. UPDATE: London logged consecutive limited practices to end the week, so he's going into Sunday with a questionable tag. Hopefully a Saturday to get over the bug will leave him ready to pick up where he left off, as in his last two games he's gone 15-222-4. The Panthers just gave up 5-104-1 to Chris Olave last week.
Odunze was limited in practice on Thursday with an ankle injury. Last week, Odunze was limited with heel and ankle injuries and played. There’s no indication he will miss the game against the Vikings. UPDATE: Odunze was cleared and looks like he'll be ready to take on a Minnesota defense that's been leaky to WRs since DeVonta Smith and A.J. Brown torched them for a combined 304 yards and 3 TDs in Week 7.
Slayton has missed the first two practices of the week with a hamstring injury and was seen working out on the side with trainers. Slayton left last week’s game with the injury and returned. Slayton would benefit from Jameis Winston at quarterback if he can play. UPDATE: We're too bummed to post a sad face emoji at the thought of Slayton being targeted on deep balls from Jameis, as Slayton was ruled OUT. The Giants will have to pitch it to keep up with the Packers, so Jameis will have to settle for throwing to Wan'Dale Robinson and any other healthy receivers on the active roster.
Missing practice with a hamstring injury is always a concern, and that was the case for Washington on Wednesday. Washington was back at practice on Thursday, which is a good sign. UPDATE: Washington was limited in practice Friday, but does not carry an injury designation. With Brian Thomas Jr. likely coming back to the lineup and Jakobi Meyers getting another week of acclimation to the Jaguars offense. The Chargers are the toughest defense as far as fantasy points allowed to WRs.
Wilson returned last week after missing two games with a knee injury and aggravated the injury. Wilson was placed on injured reserve and can return in Week 15 at the earliest. With the Jets out of contention, there’s a chance Wilson doesn’t play again this season.
Kincaid missed another practice on Thursday with a hamstring injury. The Bills said he’s “week-to-week.” Kincaid is likely going to miss this week. Dawson Knox and Jackson Hawes will fill the void. UPDATE: Kincaid has been ruled OUT for Week 11, which will leave the expected targets for the Bills a big question mark. Khalil Shakir is probably the safest bet, as he's drawn 24 targets in the last three games.
LaPorta didn’t practice on Thursday for the second straight day. The Friday practice will be key for LaPorta’s status. UPDATE: LaPorta was ruled OUT after he sat out a third straight practice with a back injury. Amon-Ra St. Brown will get his usual 10+ targets in a game with a 46.5-point over/under. Jameson Williams may have an opening to continue the heater he's been on the past couple weeks.
