Adam Ronis and Jorge Martin identify the most important injuries with fantasy football implications for Week 15, including De'Von Achane, CeeDee Lamb and more.
Congratulations on making the fantasy playoffs! Now for your next trick it's time to set the optimal lineup, and keeping an eye on key injuries is of paramount importance to do that. By now you've likely heard about Jayden Daniels being ruled OUT, and Daniel Jones' devastating Achilles tear opening the door for Philip Rivers to make a comeback has us both rooting for Grandpa Philip and dreading what could happen. What could go wrong?
Time for the Week 15 injury report for players with fantasy football implications.
Smith is dealing with back/shoulder injuries and didn’t practice again on Thursday. Smith isn’t expected to play and Kenny Pickett is expected to start against a staunch Eagles’ defense. UPDATE: Smith is OUT. The only Raiders worth starting are Brock Bowers and Ashton Jeanty, and because of the offensive environment, on the road in Philly, it's going to be a long day.
Neither quarterback was seen at practice again on Thursday. Fields was inactive last week with a knee injury and Taylor left early in the game with a groin injury. If neither can play, Brady Cook will start and the offense would get a major downgrade against the Jaguars. UPDATE: Both Fields and Taylor are sitting, so it's Cook going up against the Jaguars. Hard to picture starting Adonai Mitchell or any Jets pass catchers.
Leonard is dealing with a knee injury and put in a full practice for the second straight day on Thursday. Still, the speculation is Philip Rivers will get the start in Seattle. Either way, the Colts offense gets downgraded. UPDATE: Leonard practiced in full all week, but the Colts have named Philip Rivers as the starter for their game against the Seahawks.
UPDATE: Nothing like a Saturday injury designation for Christian McCaffrey to put fantasy managers into a corner shivering at the thought of fielding a fantasy team without the RB2 on the season. Thankfully, reports are looking like he's going to be fine to play. As long as that's the case, expect for him to get 20+ carries against a Titans defense allowing 127.3 scrimmage yards a game to running backs.
Achane got in a limited session on Thursday, the first day of the practice week ahead of the Monday Night Football encounter in Pittsburgh. We’ll keep a close eye on this injury, but just in case make sure you have Jaylen Wright on your roster. UPDATE: Achane has practiced on a limited basis this week, so he's trending in the right direction to play. The Steelers have allowed over 100 scrimmage yards to RBs in the past two games and could be without T.J. Watt in this game.
Jacobs is day-to-day after his knee stiffened in the game last week. Jacobs had another scan on his knee Monday and it was clean. He hasn’t practiced yet and with an important game next week against the Bears, Jacobs could sit this week. Emanuel Wilson would start in his absence. Make sure he’s not on the waiver wire. UPDATE: Jacobs is questionable after returning to practice on a limited basis on Friday. He's played through injuries before, so expect him to play. Since Week 3, the Broncos have not allowed over 60 rushing yards to RBs.
After missing practice on Wednesday with a groin injury, Rodriguez returned to a limited practice Thursday. Rodriguez has a great matchup against the Giants, but the floor is low due to his lack of involvement in the passing game. UPDATE: Expect Rodriguez to play after a pair of limited practices.
With two missed practices to start the week, Chubb is trending toward a sit in favor of Woody Marks, who returned to practice on a limited basis on Thursday. UPDATE: Chubb returned to practice on Friday, and is questionable for the game. This is still Woody Marks' backfield. The Cardinals are fresh off allowing 253 rushing yards to Rams RBs last week, and now must go into Houston with Marks looking like a lock for 20+ touches.
Kamara missed another practice on Thursday due to a sprained MCL. Kamara has missed the last two games and is unlikely to return this week. Devin Neal was limited with an abdomen injury, but will be the feature back with Kamara out. UPDATE: Kamara is OUT.
Bryant has missed the first two practices with a hamstring injury and is unlikely to play. Denver has been spreading the ball around in the passing game. Courtland Sutton and Troy Franklin will get a bump with Bryant out. UPDATE: Bryant was ruled out Friday.
Lamb was a full participant in practice on Thursday and is on track to play Sunday against the Vikings. Next step is clearing the concussion protocol. UPDATE: Lamb cleared the concussion protocol and will play. Ryan Flournoy is no longer relevant for fantasy.
Higgins was limited in practice for the second straight day after dealing with concussion symptoms the day after the game. Higgins missed a game two weeks ago due to a concussion and hit his head multiple times in Week 14. UPDATE: Higgins is OUT for this week and we need to keep an eye if he misses extended time after having two concussions so closely together. Mike Gesicki could be a sneaky play this week, as he does well when Higgins sits.
Harrison missed another practice Thursday due to a heel injury, which caused him to miss last week. Michael Wilson has thrived without Harrison. In three games without MHJ, Wilson has 36 catches for 445 yards with 2 TDs on 49 targets. Even in a daunting matchup against the Texans, Wilson is ranked high. UPDATE: MHJ is OUT. Let's see if Wilson can keep things going against the Texans.
The league leader with 14 TD grabs missed the first two days of practice with a hamstring issue. He has a history of these injuries, so it must be taken seriously. On Friday we should get an update from HC Sean McVay on Adams’ status for Sunday’s epic matchup with the Lions. UPDATE: Adams is questionable after a return to practice on Friday. Expect him to play in what could be a back-and-forth game against the Lions.
Odunze was limited in practice for the second straight day Thursday with a foot injury and is likely questionable. The original report was that Odunze was playing through a stress fracture and he sat for the first time last week. Even if he plays, he’s a risky start. UPDATE: Odunze is questionable after practicing all week on a limited basis. This will likely be a game-time on Sunday morning, since this is one of the 1 p.m. ET games.
Tillman didn’t practice on Thursday due to a concussion and is unlikely to play on Sunday. UPDATE: Tillman returned to practice on Friday, but has not cleared the concussion protocol. This offense will be limited to Jerry Jeudy and Harold Fannin Jr. in the passing game.
After being limited in practice Wednesday with a calf injury, Ferguson didn’t practice on Thursday. Friday will be key for his status. UPDATE: Ferguson returned to practice on Friday, so there's a chance he plays. Still, he's the third option in the passing game. You may not have other options, but best case is he scores a touchdown.
Njoku missed another practice on Thursday due to a knee injury and it’s not a good sign for him playing. Harold Fannin Jr. has become the go-to target for Shedeur Sanders and the absence of Njoku only helps. Fannin had 10 targets last week. Fannin is a consensus Top-5 tight end this week. UPDATE: Njoku is OUT. This is Fannin's time to shine, though the cold may limit passing if there is wind.
